...and Things

Caleb is on AT orders at Camp Smith in New York for two weeks so it's just Jackson, Sammy and I here in Smiths. I'll be the first to admit that it doesn't take too long for us to fall into a kind of monotonous routine when Caleb is away. It usually consists of too much Doodlebops and microwavable food that requires little or no clean up. However, we are making a commendable effort this AT to get out more and eat less cheese toast for dinner. Yesterday afternoon we all went for a walk around the track at the high school. It was a lot of fun, but the temperature was a scorching 92 degrees so we only made it twice around before Sammy and I looked like we were gonna die of heat stroke. His tongue was hanging so far out of his mouth I thought he was gonna mop the track with it! Today we tried an outing involving more air conditioning. It was a good thing too, because according to the bank it was 98 degrees in Columbus. We spent about an hour in the children's room at the library. Jackson has a minuscule amount of patience for reading, but it does seem to be getting better, so I picked up a stack of Dr. Seuss and we sat down in a big chair by the window. I managed to make it about seven pages into the first book before Jackson slammed it closed, pushed it aside, and handed me the next one on the stack. Once again I read several pages before he slammed this one shut too and we were on to the next on. So to sum up our first library experience: "One fish, two fish, red fish, blue-" SLAM! "The fly ran away in fear of the frog who ran from the cat who ran from the-" SLAM! "I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I-" SLAM!
