deployment jars

020

My skill with a paint brush is pretty much nil, but Jackson wanted his name on his jar, so I gave it my best shot.

Each jar contains one M&M for each day Caleb will be gone. We counted them out before he left. It’s approximate, of course. Nothing is certain in the Army.

The boys know they get to eat one every day, and when all the M&Ms are gone, Daddy comes home.

It’s hard to explain time to a three year old. Calendars mean nothing. Five minutes is an eternity, but a month passes in the blink of an eye. I don’t think a three year old should need to keep track of time, but after I’d answered “Is Daddy coming home today? How ‘bout tomorrow? The day after that?” for the umpteenth time this month, I decided to employ the jar method.

The jars seem impossibly full right now, but we are learning patience, and taking things one day M&M at a time.

Better put them up high lest someone get up early and is hungry!~ 123 Me

Great idea though. You are a smart woman!

Make sure when I come visit that I don't eat from the deployment jar. You know I will probably focus in on it. I think that is a great way to teach time and make it real. Good job. Now let me see if I can figure how to publish this.
