caged

Below you’ll find a few of the animals I spent time with yesterday.

Then there’s this picture:

This picture was a mistake (price of shooting with auto-focus through chain fences) but when I got home and started sifting, this is the one that caught my attention. It’s ironic because I spend so much time trying to exclude the cages, the size of the habitats, or the footpaths worn along the perimeter by a pacing animal, but these things are a part of the ugly truth. Perhaps working with a humane society for years gives you a little bit different perspective on caged critters, but I just can’t seem to leave here without wondering what I might have inadvertently funded.

Am I the only one who experiences post-zoo guilt?

Jackie, you are SO not the only one. I even get that feeling when we go to our local pet store. The birds make me the saddest of all.
