cupcakes for lunch

006

One thing I’ve learned during this deployment: four years old is not too young to get in a funk over missing your daddy. Most days with Jackson are fine, but he has occasional rough patches, days when he doesn’t want to do anything but sit in a heap on the couch or hide out in his room. When you ask him what’s wrong he says “I miss my daddy.” It breaks my heart. Because there’s no way to fix it. And precious little I can do to make things better. I try to refrain from telling him that Caleb will be home soon, because he has very limited concept of time. To him, “soon” means anywhere from 10 minutes to 10 days. So the best I can do is join him on the couch and commiserate. And when all else fails, I serve cupcakes for lunch.

Oh that breaks my heart for him (and for you). Cupcakes are great, but they're surely no replacement for Daddy. I'm so glad for all of you that the word SOON is beginning to be true.
