say goodbye to fluffy ears

010

I like Cavaliers with long hair. The breed is not technically supposed to be clipped, ever, and the ones you see strutting down the dog show carpet have these sweep-the-ground to-die-for coats. I sort of envy that, so I’ve resisted clipping Tucker beyond the bottom of his feet. But between spending every weekend at the lake, and the weekdays in our forested backyard, he has been growing mats at an astonishing rate. Every night when I brush him out I encounter a mat I can’t get out, usually behind his ears. And then I’m reluctantly forced to dig out the scissors.

So today he has an appointment at the groomers and I intend to do something I never thought I would: ask them to clip him short, ears included. Maybe he’ll look like a Cavalier again next winter.
