things I learned from painting the doors black

002

1. Rome wasn’t built in a day… and doors aren’t painted black in one either. What started as a weekend event turned into the project that never ends. I should have planned a little more time so I didn’t burn out so fast. Don’t tell anyone, but the inside of the linen closet is still white. And so is the laundry room, and the studio. Basically I painted what showed and left the rest for another day, or next year.

2. All things are not created equal… including black paint. Just trust me on this one, because you know I bought the cheapest can on the shelf and regretted it all the way through four coats of paint on each door. That’s a few hours I’ll never get back. I ended up switching paint halfway through and no one ever has been as happy as I was to shell out a few extra bucks for the good stuff.

3. If you try it, you’ll like it… and never want to walk through a plain old white door again. And considering how long it took to turn them black, they’ll never be white again. At least not while I live here.
