if we must

photos by Caleb
Halloween is my least favorite holiday for so many reasons, not the least of which is that every year I’m reminded of having my car towed when I parked illegally on Halloween while Caleb was deployed. Sounds benign enough, but when you toss in the dark street in a downtown neighborhood, two small hungry kids past their bedtime, and me with no idea how to get home, it becomes more terrifying.
Related: Last week I came out of the local market to find my car nowhere to be seen. In fact, there wasn’t a single RAV on the lot (believe me. I checked.) and then I had a 3 second coronary before realizing I was holding the keys to Caleb’s truck. Clearly, I’m still not over the fear of being towed.
Other reasons to dislike Halloween include:
1. convincing child he can’t change his mind about a costume once fake fur has been purchased from the fabric store.
2. convincing other child to wear eye makeup for just the photos… unsuccessful.
Jack and Jon, on the other hand, are crazy about Halloween. It’s dress up and candy. What’s not to love?

Jackson was Hiccup, from the movie How to Train Your Dragon

Jonathan was Jack Sparrow from Pirate of the Caribbean

At the last minute I decided if you can’t beat ‘em, you should join ‘em.

Happy Sugar Rush Day. And onward to Thanksgiving!!
